BABSON COLLEGE GLOBE

We were hired on as subcontractors by Studio Fresh Boston to help paint the 28 foot tall Babson College Globe! This steel globe had fallen into disrepair and lay in storage on the campus for years. In celebration of their upcoming 100 year anniversary, Babson College set out to revive the globe by bringing it out of storage, building a park around it and repainting the faded map from 30 years ago. Studio Fresh was hired to tackle the immense job of repainting the globe from scratch and they needed help, thus hired us on as well. The paint job took 6 weeks, starting with a blank primed white globe, then using large scale ‘gores’ to transfer the outline of the continents onto the globe, then filling in water and body masses, then painting prominent ocean and landmass features, then adding geographic boundaries and finally major country and world feature type. This was such an exciting and challenging project. It was monumental as well.. In the end the Babson College globe is the largest hand painted rotating globe in the world!
